Flag Rock

A must-see location on every itinerary for Galle is Flag Rock, which is situated at the southernmost point of Galle Fort in Sri Lanka. Built as a Portuguese stronghold in the 1580s, it functioned as a tactical watchtower for invading ships. In the seventeenth century, the Dutch fortified Galle and used flags to warn sailors of any threats offshore. With a small staircase leading up to the rock and stunning views, Flag Rock is now a well-liked location for leisure and beautiful views. The ramparts of the Galle Fort and the Galle Lighthouse are also visible to visitors. This is a well-liked location to observe sunsets because of the setting sun. The road up to Flag Rock is lined with local vendors selling traditional Sri Lankan snacks, drinks, and fresh fruit.
